Dr. Ronnie W. Hood, Ph.D. -- Senior Pastor
Dr. Hood's love for the Lord and people is evident in his ministry. Though well trained in theology, the Bible, and church history (Brother Ronnie has degrees in religion and sociology from Samford University, and a Masters of Divinity in Biblical Languages and Ministry, a Masters of Theology, and a Ph.D. in Church History and New Testament from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary), and a firm believer in in-depth studies in the Word and carefully prepared sermons, he believes that the true work of ministry is done in the trenches--where the people are. He likes to makes himself available for pastoral care. In addition, it is not uncommon to see him giving "high fives" to the children, discuss a pertinent life issue with a college student, talk off to the side to a new family, or give a hug to a senior adult at the door. As a former board member of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, Brother Ronnie served on the mission and evangelism committees of the convention. That same heart for outreach and evangelism is seen at Canyon Creek. It was the same heart for missions that first brought him and his wife, Dr. Renate Viveen Hood, together. Though the couple met at seminary in New Orleans, Renate Hood originally is a native from the Netherlands. She came to the seminary after having served as a missionary in Indonesia for two years. Renate Hood is a professor of New Testament at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Serving together at Canyon Creek brings the couple much joy.
The Hoods have two children--a daughter, Anastasia Janneke (2000), and a son, Keanu Jip (2002). Anastasia loves it when her daddy tells her stories and practices his jokes on her. She is a gifted, young artist. Keanu enjoys spending time with his daddy, especially when fishing together. He likes to play baseball. In terms of ministry philosophy, Brother Ronnie believes that: "In order to meet the needs of people in the twenty-first century, local church ministry must be genuine, vibrant, and balanced. I embrace text-driven Bible teaching and preaching, genuine worship and fellowship, and effective ministry and evangelism that are relevant for today’s world."
